Welcome home! You have found the developers of the SSEYO Koan Generative Music System.

In 2007 we started a new company, Intermorphic, to carry on our work with generative music systems. We did this because SSEYO was acquired by Tao Group in 2002, at which point SSEYO Koan sadly passed away (it's gone, meaning it's not been developed or supported since 2002). To this day, however, we remain thankful that SSEYO Koan had its day in the sun, as it gave pleasure to a lot of people and gave us good experience in developing generative music systems. In 2008 we were finally able to put Koan to rest gracefully when we acquired the old SSEYO Koan IP, but too late to use any of it our new clean-room developed generative engine.

However, we've now developed something way better than Koan, Noatikl, and it stands on Koan's shoulders. Noatikl is NOT Koan, but read on for more...

From SSEYO Koan to Intermorphic Noatikl

We started building the Koan music system back in 1990, way before the genre was ever called Generative Music. Brian Eno saw Koan in 1995 and then coined the term "Generative Music" prior to the release of "Generative Music 1" with SSEYO Koan software. Well, as you can imagine, we have learnt a bit about generative systems over the years, and when we built Noatikl from scratch we used the same general principles as we did with Koan. That means past Koan users will find Noatikl similar to Koan in many ways & there's a way it can even play content created with Koan tools, too. So for Koan users the 'format' lives on in .noatikl files instead. Noatikl is NOT SSEYO Koan, but Noatikl is the future for Koan. Any questions, then get in touch!

What's new in Noatikl as compared to Koan?

Up-to-date 64bit/32bit Mac and PC versions; Powerful scripting; VST/AU plugins; a runtime engine included in the Mixtikl 12 track generative music lab (below) for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch; all-new Tiklpaks of add-on templates; ongoing development - plus an active user base! More is also coming in Noatikl 2 later in 2011. So, welcome to the future of Koan, and do come and join in the fun with Noatikl!
